Summer has arrived and we have some scrumptious cool (and healthy!) treats to offer.

~Sissy~

Frosty Paws

This is a lovely cool treat for your dog(s) - you can use the size muffin tin that is appropriate for your size of dog.  Schipperkes love the mini muffin tins and I can refill it 3/4 times.  I store all those lovely treats in a zip lock bag in the freezer, ready for  a warm lazy day.  They keep very well for a long time!

32   oz container Plain or vanilla yogurt

1 mashed banana or one large jar of baby fruit or baby meat.

2 Tbsp honey

2 Tbsp peanut butter

Blend all the ingredients together until smooth.  Freeze in a container appropriate to the dog's size.  ice cube trays, 3 oz plastic cup or muffin tins.

Does your dog prefer pumpkin?  Try this recipe.

1 can pumpkin puree (not ready to mix & bake)

1/2 cup peanut butter

1 cup plain yogurt

Blend all together and freeze as above directed.

Steamed Veggies

If you steam your vegetables -- put the water used aside to cool (it has lots of vitamins).  Put tha water into an ice-cube tray or the mini muffin tins and freeze for another nice cool treat for your dog.  You can add beef or chicken broth to add to the flavor.

Peanut Butter Dog Biscuit Recipe

Preheat oven to 375º F. Line two sheet pans with parchment paper.

  • 2 3/4 cup Whole Wheat Flour
  • 2 3/4 cup All-Purpose Flour
  • 2 tablespoons Brown Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 3 Eggs
  • 1 cup Peanut Butter
  • 1/3 cup Vegetable Oil
  • 1 cup Water

1. Combine flours, brown sugar, and salt in a mixing bowl. Add eggs and peanut butter and mix until incorporated.

2. Mix in oil. Next add enough water until dough is smooth and workable. You may not need to use the entire cup of water.

3. Cover the dough and set aside for 15-20 minutes.

4. Roll out the dough to about 3/8″- 1/2″ thick. Cut to desired shapes then put on sheet pans.

5. Bake for approximately 40 minutes or until biscuits are slightly browned and fairly hard (they will harden a touch more when cool.) Set aside to cool completely.
